Yes. If the supply into the property is sound then the fault is inside the installation, and that is exactly what electrical fault finding is for. We establish which side of the cut-out the problem sits on.
An older board is not automatically unlawful, but many lack RCD protection and cannot be repaired with parts still in production. We will tell you whether repair is realistic or whether consumer unit replacement makes more sense.
Most are done within a couple of hours, including testing. Tracing an intermittent fault takes longer, because it has to be proved rather than assumed.
Yes. Long submains out to garages, workshops and annexes are a common source of faults, especially where the cable is buried or has been extended over the years. We test the run and repair or replace as needed.

Start with the buildings. Slinfold is a small village west of Horsham, and each phase of building brought its own wiring standards. Homes off the gas network running electric heating and immersion circuits is the factor that shapes most of the emergency work we are called out for.
The housing runs to farmhouses with generations of additions, modern barn-style new builds and tile-hung and timber-framed cottages, and each was wired to the standards of its day. Additions made since, from extensions to garden supplies, are often where the weak point turns out to be.
Age is only half of it. The other half is load: kitchens, showers and heating that draw far more than the original design allowed for, on circuits that were never uprated to match.
