Peacehaven was built plot by plot, so most of its bungalows have been altered, extended and part-rewired in stages rather than all at once. That history shows up as odd circuits, buried joints and boards that were never brought up to date. We attend across East Sussex 24 hours a day, test what is actually there, and resolve 85% of emergency callouts on the first visit.
Most calls here come back to age and alteration. Inter-war bungalows carry cable in the loft that later insulation now covers, and circuits that were extended room by room as the house grew.
Post-war estates tend to need consumer unit work, because a board fitted in the 1980s often has no RCD protection at all. Where sockets, lighting and an outbuilding supply share one old board, RCBOs stop the whole bungalow going dark for a single fault.
Outside, the work is mostly renewal: corroded external accessories, garden and driveway lighting, and buried submains to garages and workshops. Every callout includes a visual inspection and circuit testing, so you find out what the installation is really doing.

Yes. We are available 24/7 and the 1 hour response is our standard across East Sussex. The callout charge is set by the time of day rather than by the job: £110 for a basic daytime call between 9:30am and 3pm (that slot is not guaranteed within the hour), £130 day, £180 early evening and £250 overnight. Any extra work is quoted and agreed with you first.
Because the town sits on the clifftop with nothing between it and the Channel. Salt-laden wind reaches every avenue, not only the seafront, and it works on the screws, terminals and seals of anything mounted outside. Perished gaskets then let wind-driven rain into the enclosure, which is usually what trips the RCD. Renewal in properly rated weatherproof accessories, with glands and seals fitted correctly, is what makes it last.
Rewireable boards and early consumer units without RCD protection are still fairly common in Peacehaven's inter-war and post-war stock, simply because of when those homes were wired. That does not mean yours is unsafe; testing is what settles it. We measure the circuits, and where a change is warranted a modern consumer unit with RCBOs means one fault no longer takes out the whole bungalow. All work is tested to BS 7671.
The whole fixed installation, which in a Peacehaven bungalow often means more than the obvious: the garage or workshop supply across the garden, outside sockets and lighting, and any circuits added when the loft or rear extension was done. You get the condition of each circuit, coded observations and a clear list of anything needing remedial work. Rented homes in England need an EICR at least every five years.

PEACEHAVEN, EAST SUSSEX
Peacehaven grew from plots sold off after the First World War, and a great many homes here began as modest single-storey buildings that were improved over the decades that followed. The wiring reflects that: a rewire in one era, a consumer unit from another, a kitchen circuit added when the rear extension went on, and joints hidden above a later ceiling.
The post-war estates behind the seafront brought PVC-cabled installations that are now well past their intended life, often still fed from a board fitted before RCD protection was normal. Nothing about that can be judged from the outside of a fuse box door; an EICR measures insulation resistance and earth loop impedance and tells you where the installation actually stands.
The whole town sits on top of the cliff, which matters more than people expect. There is no sheltered hinterland here — the south-westerlies come straight off the Channel and carry salt the length of every avenue, so external accessories corrode inland as readily as they do on the cliff path.
Plot sizes are the other quirk. Garages, workshops and garden rooms sit well back from the house on submains buried decades ago, and older properties on their own earth electrode depend entirely on working RCD protection.
