What we do

We are called into Lindfield homes and businesses at all hours. Domestic work is the bulk of it, but shops, offices and units get the same response, including out-of-hours cover so trading is not lost.

Jobs run from lighting faults and RCD tripping to power loss and tripping, with EICR safety certificates for landlords who need the installation documented properly.

Where a repair is a temporary measure rather than a fix, we say so plainly and set out what a permanent solution would involve.

We guarantee…

We will fault find and resolve the issue if it can be resolved on the spot. With 25 years experience in fault finding we believe there isn't an issue which we can't solve. Some issues may need a revisit due to the deterioration of the cabling, and where that happens we will always explain your options clearly before any further work begins.

An older board is not automatically unlawful, but many lack RCD protection and cannot be repaired with parts still in production. We will tell you whether repair is realistic or whether consumer unit replacement makes more sense.

Most are done within a couple of hours, including testing. Tracing an intermittent fault takes longer, because it has to be proved rather than assumed.

Yes. Long submains out to garages, workshops and annexes are a common source of faults, especially where the cable is buried or has been extended over the years. We test the run and repair or replace as needed.

A board that trips is doing its job. It is usually a faulty appliance, water where it should not be, or a damaged cable. Testing identifies the circuit, and where an old board puts everything on one RCD, moving to RCBOs means only the faulty circuit goes off next time. See RCD tripping.

Electrical emergency?

Emergencies in Lindfield usually start with an old board that can no longer be repaired with parts still in production. Behind it is often listed buildings in the centre where rewiring has to be done sympathetically, or a board never split into enough circuits for the way the property is used now.

Listed and period buildings in the centre, many with flats above shops are common here, and in those the loss of one circuit can take out far more than it should. Testing establishes exactly where the fault sits.

Repairs are carried out to BS 7671, with certification to match the work done.

LINDFIELD

The electrical character of Lindfield

Lindfield has a High Street of listed houses running down to the pond. What that means underneath the plaster is a set of installations from very different decades. Listed buildings in the centre where rewiring has to be done sympathetically is the factor that shapes most of the emergency work we are called out for.

The housing runs to period houses under conservation control, listed and period buildings in the centre, many with flats above shops and Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and each was wired to the standards of its day. Additions made since, from extensions to garden supplies, are often where the weak point turns out to be.

Tenure matters as much as age. Lindfield has its share of rented and leasehold property, and in those the fault can sit either in your own consumer unit or in a landlord circuit, so the first job is often working out which side of the line it is on.

Most of it arrives as an old board that can no longer be repaired with parts still in production. Once the circuits are tested the cause is usually obvious, and usually fixable there and then.

Landlords have a further duty: in England a rented home needs an EICR at least every five years and before a new tenancy. All work is tested to BS 7671.

Businesses get the same cover as households, including out-of-hours attendance so a fault does not cost a day of trading.

  • Boards that cannot be repaired with parts still in production
  • Dead circuits and intermittent faults traced with proper test instruments
  • Consumer units where one RCD takes out the whole property
  • Outdoor sockets, garden lighting and outbuilding submains
  • Landlord EICRs for flats, conversions and rented houses

We also cover Haywards Heath, Ardingly and Cuckfield.
